Considerate Contractor Scheme
West Lothian Council have invested 81 million pounds in updating the standard of our roads.
The "Capital Programme" created to ensure this money was spent in the most efficient and cost effective way was started in 2004 and was completed in 2008. To assist this programme, Road Services established a " Considerate Contractor" scheme to work in partnership with all Public Utilities and Contractors.
All main utilities e.g. BT, Scottish Power, Scottish Water etc all signed up to this idea of working together. No contractor can work for WLC without adhering to the Schemes high demands for quality and customer consideration. The scheme is now in its third year and has become a great success.
The Voluntary Code of Practice aims to ensure that inconvenience and disruption to residents, businesses and road users are kept to an absolute minimum, and to improve the co-ordination of all kinds of works and events on the public road network, and more importantly improve public safety.
The Considerate Contractor Road works scheme aims to reduce inconvenience, frustration and in some cases unnecessary danger to road users and pedestrians, which can be caused by work on roads and footpaths.
Inspectors for the Roads Services department and trained members of the public (Lay Assessors) carry out routine inspections of road works sites throughout the county and results are reported on a monthly basis, for the most recent results please use the links below. At the end of each year the top contractors are rewarded for their hard work and dedication to the scheme at the annual Considerate Contractors Awards Ceremony.
As part of the strong partnership working arrangements we have with the contractors, the contractors sponsor the ceremony. We would like to thank all of our sponsors who help to contribute to the success of the day.
Recent sponsors of the Awards Ceremonies included Ritchie Brothers, T & N Gilmartin, Crummock, Stirling Council, Maclays Civil Engineering, Tayside Contracts, M & M Road Surfacing, GMJV and Lightways.
