Environmental Enforcement Wardens
What's red and black and very, very green - West Lothian's new 22-strong Environmental Enforcement team.
The environmental wardens, who will patrol across West Lothian, have now completed their training and have moved into action to crack down on environmental crime.
The expanded team offers a new and improved service, with environmental wardens based in specific areas to develop good relations with residents and work with them to identify and tackle localised problems.
The wardens provide a dedicated resource to undertake enforcement action against environmental crimes, patrolling local communities from 8am to 8pm seven days a week. They will also continue to educate local residents about the impact of environmental crime - highlighting the fact that offenders are responsible for their actions.
West Lothian Council announced its expansion of the Environmental Enforcement team in response to public demand for more action against dog fouling, litter, fly tipping, abandoned vehicles and graffiti.
Easily recognisable in their distinct red and black uniforms, the team is composed of people from various backgrounds, including former police officers and community wardens.
The expansion of the team from three to 22 wardens is proving popular with local business people and members of the community. The team will work alongside the Neighbourhood Environment teams and Land Services to maximise action and improvements on local environmental issues.
West Lothian Council is urging people to play their part in keeping thier community clean and free from environmental crimes. If you would like to report an environmental crime such as dog-fouling, fly-tipping, litter or abandoned vehicles please freephone 0800 616 446.
