Dial-a-Ride

Handicabs' Dial-a-Ride service offers a door-to-door public transport service for people with limited mobility. Handicabs are specially adapted vehicles which can carry a combination of wheelchair users and other passengers. The service operates seven days a week.

Eligibility  The service is available for people who are: elderly; infirm; or disabled and other residents in West Lothian.

Dial-a-Bus service

These services are available to those unable to use normal bus services, and are operated by Handicabs on behalf of West Lothian Council.

Dial A Ride offers a door to door service, 7 days a week for pre booked local travel - fares are approx 20p a mile with a £2-80 boarding charge, whilst the Dial A bus service operates Monday to Friday between most areas of West Lothian and the major shopping centres at Livingston, Bathgate and Linlithgow at a flat fare of 80p.

Service Standards

We will: operate the service in the council''s area every day of the year. A reduced service may operate on public holidays, subject to passenger demand and availability of driving staff; process registrations within seven working days and will acknowledge receipt either by telephone or letter. We will attempt to meet urgent travel needs on the same day as registration, subject to availability;aim to have telephone lines available when passengers telephone the office;aim to answer calls within five rings;ensure that all our drivers are fully trained to give any reasonable assistance passengers may require to and from their homes and on entering and leaving the vehicles;ensure that wheelchairs are securely restrained using approved equipment on all journeys;test passenger satisfaction with our vehicles and their cleanliness on a regular basis and report the results to customers;acknowledge any complaint / comment in writing within seven working days with a copy of the formal procedures;always accept one advanced booking for any passenger, subject to availability. In addition, customers can try for as many bookings for trips on the same day or the day ahead and we will do our best to accommodate these;aim to complete 1.5 passenger trips per scheduled working hour;pick up 97% of customers within fifteen minutes of the scheduled trip time;complete 99% of all trips booked; andensure that all customers are treated with courtesy and respect. We will measure our success with customer satisfaction surveys and report the results to our customers.

Can I cancel my booking for Dial a Ride?

Yes, you can cancel your booking. A cancellation fee of £2.80 may be applied if you cancel without giving notice.

Can I travel outwith West Lothian with Dial-a-Ride?

Journeys are usually undertaken to places within West Lothian. A special tariff is applied for destinations outwith West Lothian.

Additional passengers pay a £1.00 flat fare when accompaning an full-fare paying passenger on the same journey

My daughter and her son will travel with me. Is there a reduced ratewith Dial-a-Ride for children?

There is no reduction for children travelling. The standard fare applies.
