Airdrie - Bathgate Rail Link

Work has started on the Airdrie to Bathgate Rail Link. The project involves re-opening the Airdrie to Bathgate section and upgrading the existing Glasgow to Drumgelloch and Edinburgh to Bathgate lines to electrified, double-track standard.  The new line will provide new direct services between Glasgow, Edinburgh and the intermediate stations. The project is promoted by Network Rail and funded by Transport Scotland.  Further information can be found on the project website.

West Lothian Council is working with all partners to deliver the project and to minimise disruption during the construction stage.  Network Rail has advised that there will be two line closures, in July and later in October 2008.  The first line closure is from 5 - 20 July.  A public meeting will be held in Bathgate Community Centre at 7:00pm on 16 June 2008 to keep passengers, communities and interested parties informed of proposed closures.  The meeting will be attended by First Scotrail who will provided details of a replacement bus service.
