Airdrie - Bathgate Rail Link
Project Update April 2010
Despite poor weather conditions through autumn and winter, construction work is now at an advanced stage. The new rail link will open on time in December 2010.
Track laying has commenced at Bathgate. The track laying operation will start from Bathgate and work westwards towards Drumgelloch.
To minimise disruption on the local road network the track materials of ballast, sleepers and rails will be brought in by rail.
Relocated Cycle Path, National Cycle Network Route 75
Work has continued on the 14 mile replacement cycle path and it is scheduled to open at the same time as the railway in December 2010.
Stations and Station Car Parks
Uphall Station
The station at Uphall has been upgraded and an addional car park is being constructed to bring the parking capacity up to 295 spaces.
Bathgate Station and Car Park - Reopening
The relocated Bathgate Station and its new 395 space car park will open in September 2010.
Armadale and Blackridge Stations
The construction work including access roads and car parking is expected to be completed by August 2010 for Armadale Station and by October 2010 for Blackridge Station. Both stations will formally open in December with the opening of the line.
Bridges
Several bridges within West Lothian will continue to be affected by construction works. The most recent information is provided below:
· Uphall Station: B8046 closed for bridge works re-opening date still be be established
· Whitburn Road, Birniehill, Bathgate, closed until June 2010
· Station Road, Armadale: B8084 ? future closure, dates still be be established;
· Stonerigg Road Armadale: new bridge completed, road open;
· Westcraigs Road, Blackridge: new bridge completed, road open;
· Bedlormie Toll A89: future closure, likely to be carried out over a weekend in May. Potentially 14th 17th May 2010
