Internet, computers and online information
All libraries in West Lothian have access to computers. You can use them to:
access the internet to search for information and use web-based email
do word processing, create spreadsheets, databases, presentations or greetings cards using Microsoft Office applications
print your work
save your work onto a memory stick (available to buy in the library)
Anyone who lives, works or takes an interest in West Lothian can join free.
Users are expected to become library members and those under 16 require permission from a parent or guardian.
WiFi hotspots can be found at Bathgate, Carmondean, Linlithgow and Whitburn libraries, so bring along your wireless enabled laptop or PDA and enjoy FREE, fast, broadband access to the Internet.
Service Standards
We will .....
provide basic guidance on use of the computers
ensure a range of simple computer instruction manuals is available for use in the library
accept bookings for computer sessions up to one week in advance
make appointments for those who require help to set up an e-mail account or an induction session
provide two levels of filtered access to the Internet (under 18 and adult)
Policies
The "Acceptable Use of Computers" and the shorter version "Lifelearn Computers Conditions of Use", as well as library rules and regulations are freely available from staff. Printed versions are also kept in the Lifelearn User Manual by the computers.
