Parental support
Parental Support
West Lothian Council recognises the pressures on parents today and the need they have for information, strategies, support and exchange about a whole range of issues that they have to deal with. We help meet that need in a way that respects parents' abilities and opinions. If you are a parent, whether you are feeling quite confident and just need information on a particular topic or whether you feel you really need to change your approach in some way, we aim to assist you to find something that will help.
We have a steering group called Parenting West Lothian which has been set up to provide information and assistance to promote positive parenting. For more information please refer to the Parenting West Lothian website which can be accessed from the links at the right of this page.
Parental Involvement - Schooling
Changes have recently been made to the law to help parents and schools work together as partners in children's learning. The Scottish Parliament has passed the Scottish Schools (Parental Involvement) Act 2006 to encourage and support more parents to become involved.
Because parents have such a vital role to play in their children's education, the Act aims to make it easier for parents to become involved in their own child's education and in their child's school more generally.
The Council and its schools are already working very hard to involve parents, but the Act makes this a priority for every authority and every school.
