Rubbish and recycling

Help to divert waste from landfill

West Lothian Council collects domestic refuse in all areas of the district on a regular basis and also provide a wide range of facilities throughout to recycle.

Waste Services are responsible for the collection of all household waste and are environmentally responsible in the management of waste in line with the governments zero waste plan. The service provides weekly uplifts from residential properties. The service carries out around 75,000 household waste collections per week as well as 24,000 bulky uplifts and 10,000 commercial uplifts from 1200 trade waste premises and other council departments a month. This amounts to around 4.6 million uplifts a year. Over 42% of the waste was recycled = 46,500 tonnes, which is approximately 500 bin lorries a year diverted from landfill

Community Recycling Centres

Please note that we are not able to collect any waste or recyclate that is not contained within the bin. If people do have any excess waste or recyclate this should be taken to our Community Recycling Centres at Broxburn, Blackburn, Linlithgow, Deans and Oakbank in Livingston, and Whitburn. Use the 'find my nearest' service.
