Bathgate once more exhibition

Bathgate Once More exhibitionAn exhibition charting the story of Bathgate?s truck and tractor workers is running in the town?s Bennie Museum.

Bathgate was an important part of Britain?s giant motor vehicle industry for quarter of a century.

The Bathgate Once More exhibition tells the story of the coming of the British Motor Corporation (BMC) factory to Bathgate in 1961, through to its closure on 27 June 1986. It is based on first hand accounts of some of the many thousands of people who worked in the industry.

Jim McCulloch was the first hourly paid worker employed at the BMC Bathgate. He started work in June 1961 as a handyman and then became a driver, looking after the Managing Director?s car, driving the works? ambulance, and helping out with gatehouse duties.

Jim is one of more than 50 former workers at the plant who have contributed their personal stories, photographs and artefacts to the Bathgate Once More exhibition.

Also featured is Hugh Mitchell (pictured). Hugh moved to Bathgate from Glasgow in the early 1960s to join the BMC as a Setter Operator.  He was an athlete with Shettleston Harriers and set up the running club at the BMC.

The Bathgate Once More exhibition will be open during Thursdays-Saturdays, from 11am 3.30pm, until the end of February.
