Provost
As Civic Head, our Provost Tom Kerr chairs the full council meeting and represents the people of West Lothian at official events.
Provost Tom Kerr was appointed to the role following the local council elections in May 2007. Councillor Kerr was brought up in West Lothian and has represented St Michael's Ward (1992 to 1999) and Kingsfield Ward in Linlithgow (1999 to present).
When on official duty the Provost wears a chain of office. The chain was created in 1974 for West Lothian District Council. In 1999 following the formation of West Lothian Council a gold medalion was added to the chain.
The Provost represents the people of West Lothian at various events throughout the year.
Civic recognition
As Civic Head Provost Tom Kerr, chairs full council meetings and represents the people of West Lothian by hosting and attending a range of events which both recognise and honour achievement and endeavour.
Events include:
- 100th birthdays and diamond wedding anniversaries,
- visiting delegations from around the UK and overseas,
- council staff at 25 years plus retirals,
- sporting achievements,
- Citizenship Ceremonies, and
- Children's Panel Members.
The Provost is always keen to hear of any outstanding achievements.
