Strong foundations built at local nursery
A West Lothian nursery has been praised for building positive relations between staff and pupils.
Glenvue Nursery School in Dedridge, Livingston, celebrated a good report from Her Majesty's Inspectors of Education (HMIE) and the Care Commission recently.
Inspectors singled out the key strengths of the nursery in the positive relationships developed between staff and children, as well as with families, and the very good support for children and their families who required additional learning assistance.
Councillor Andrew Miller, Executive member for Education, said: " We set very high standards for our nurseries and I'm delighted that once again Her Majesty's Inspectorate has recognised the excellent work being done here in West Lothian.
" It's a testament to the dedicated efforts of staff, parents and pupils that Glenvue has earned such a positive report. We always value the comments made by HMIE and will certainly be using this report to make Glenvue even better."
In their report, the inspectors noted that staff knew children well and had developed positive relationships with them.
They were caring and attended well to children's emotional and physical needs, and used praise appropriately to acknowledge achievement. The report also said that children were making good progress across the curriculum and leadership of the nursery was good.
The head teacher was highly committed to the work of the nursery and led the staff team in developing new initiatives, while self-evaluation of the nursery was good.
The inspectors also recommended that the nursery staff should improve children's learning experiences, and their use of questioning to extend and challenge children's learning. They also recommended that the head teacher and staff should continue to strengthen the impact of systems to monitor and evaluate the quality of children?s learning experiences.
Glenvue Nursery had a roll of 55 pupils at the time of the inspection in November last year.
