War memorial steering group for Broxburn
Following a packed public meeting, a steering group has been set up to further progress proposals to create an outdoor memorial to Broxburn and Uphall's war heroes.
The four councillors on the Broxburn, Uphall and Winchburgh Local Area Committee called the meeting.
Councillor Ellen Glass, who chairs the Local Area Committee (LAC), said: "I was delighted to see such a big turnout at the public meeting and pleased that there was so much enthusiasm for the idea.
"I was especially pleased to see a good turnout of young people and I will personally be contacting all the local schools to try and get them even more involved."
The steering group will now explore options, such as location, design and size. It is planned to visit other outdoor was memorials in West Lothian.
The first meeting of the steering group, to which members of the public are also invited, takes place in Uphall Community Centre on Wednesday 17 September at 6pm.
"Some people said they had been campaigning for many years for an outdoor war memorial for Uphall and Broxburn," added Councillor Glass, "I am confident we now have the momentum to achieve that objective."
