Boost for Pensioners’ Christmas Fund

West Lothian Council has agreed to increase the Pensioners' Groups Christmas Fund to £24,470 in 2008 (£12,142 in 2007).

The Council Executive today (Tuesday 2 September) also agreed to change the process of allocating the funds to beneficiaries.

The funds will now be allocated based on the following recommendations:

· To divide the fund on the basis of the total fund divided by the total number of beneficiaries.
· That all groups agreed at all Local Area Committees (LACs) last session (2007/2008) and who submitted an application would receive funding.
· LACs are to make recommendations for new groups not on the agreed list.

Council Leader Peter Johnston said: "The Christmas Fund provides many groups with a variety of entertainment events throughout the festive period and we are delighted to be able to allocate more than double the amount this year.

"The changes to the way in which funds are allocated across beneficiaries in West Lothian will create a fairer and more equitable system."
