Jazzing up West Lothian
West Lothian jazz lovers are in for a treat, with a host of top Scottish and international acts coming to the area.
Howden Park Centre in Livingston will host a series of jazz events starting with the Andy Mears Jazz Ensemble this Saturday, 21 January, from 7.30pm.
Featuring several of the most exciting and talented jazz musicians in Scotland today, Andy Mears' tight ensemble performs skillfully crafted arrangements of much loved standards from the likes of Duke Ellington, Billy Strayhorn and Cole Porter, as well as their own original compositions and the high energy improvisation they are renowned for. Tickets cost £12 or £10 concessions.

The last Sunday of every month is time for Jazz on a Sunday afternoon at Howden Park Centre. Listen to the best of jazz in good company in an intimate cabaret style setting with, and treat yourself to a first class Sunday lunch, brunch or high tea in the centre's stylish Bistro.
Upcoming Jazz on a Sunday events include Phase 1, on Sunday, 29 January. The quartet performs a diverse mixture of material from Sinatra and Nat King Cole to George Benson and Stevie Wonder in their own unique musical flavour.
Described as Australia's "first lady of jazz singing", Janet Seidel brings her trio to Livingston on Sunday, 26 February. Janet has released 17 critically acclaimed and popular CDs, and her voice has featured the latest TV ads for Audi cars and even an episode of US hit TV show, Glee. The repertoire will be drawn from the trio's special arrangements from the Great American songbook and her variety of themed shows such as Peggy Lee, Blossom Dearie, Cole Porter, Doris Day and Johnny Mercer.
The New Jazz Standards Songbook on Sunday 25 March sees a variety of pop songs from the likes of Lennon & McCartney, The Kinks, Sting, The Beachboys and Tom Waits given a jazz makeover. Vocalist Mike Rogers gives his unique jazz take on some classic music, accompanied by piano and bass.
The Big Apple comes to West Lothian with Jess Abrahams' A Love Letter to New York show on Sunday, April 22. The native New Yorker brings the glitter, the glamour and the grime of the city that never sleeps, with an affectionate journey through the music she grew up with.
