2008 Stellar Awards

Councillor Andrew Miller with Robert Laing, Carmondean Primary School, who won the achievement - Sport at the Stellar Awards on 29 November.The commitment and achievements of West Lothian's talented students was cause for celebration at the fourth annual Stellar Award ceremony recently.

The awards celebrate educational excellence and featured categories for academic attainment, citizenship, equality and diversity, achievement, and teamwork.   

Over 300 young people, parents, carers, teachers, councillors and council representatives attended the celebration at the historic Hopetoun House on 19 November.

Piper Scott Archer, piped the guests in and the West Lothian Fiddle Group provided the entertainment for the evening and Council Leader Peter Johnston, Chief Executive Alex Linkston, Provost Tom Kerr and Director of education and cultural services, Gordon Ford all presented awards.   Councillors Andrew Miller, Isobel Hutton, and Gordon Beurskens also presented awards.

The Awards were hosted by John Wood, principle teacher for curriculum for Arts, Drama and Music at Inveralmond Community High School. 

Councillor Andrew Miller, executive councillor for education, said: "The Stellar Awards are a celebration of individual and team achievements across a variety of education activities.  

"It is important to recognise and celebrate educational achievements and I hope that the Stellar Awards will continue to encourage and inspire other pupils to do great things through education.

"These young people really are a credit to their parents and their schools and I would like to congratulate all those involved."
