Disabilities and adapting homes

THE CHILD DISABILITY SERVICE

The Child Disability Service provides a social work service to children and young people who live in West Lothian and have a significant or complex disability. We offer support, advice and guidance to children, young people, their families and carers. The Child Disability Service strives to promote social inclusion and to maximise the potential of individual children with the emphasis on providing, as far as possible, services in local communities. In addition to providing services directly related to the impact of disability, the Child Disability Service also delivers statutory services including providing reports to the Scottish Children's Reporter Administration (SCRA), Child Protection investigations and supporting children who are Looked After and Looked After and Accommodated by the Council.

For council tenants who require an adaptation to their home, Occupational Therapists work closely with the council's Capital Programme Liaison Officers (see below).

West Lothian Council has a team of Capital Programme Liaison Officers (CPLO) to plan all major capital projects for council homes in the area. Capital programmes are projects that add to or improve a property, such as building work, or the installation of new heating systems, windows or doors. The liaison staff produce and send out lists of all capital work being carried out in each town to local housing offices, council information service bases and the customer service centre.

There are local capital programme liaison officers at each housing office. These staff will also deal with complaints about faulty equipment still under the one-year guarantee. They will also undertake inspections and report on the installation of aids and adaptations for the council's social work service.

For help, contact your local capital programme liaison officer as follows:
