SOCIAL WORK ADDICTIONS TEAM:
The Social Work Addictions Team aims to provide an accessible and flexible service which enables individuals and families to take positive action to address drug related harm.
This service works in accordance with the following drug strategy aims for treatment and care of drug users:
- to utilise a harm reduction approach
- to minimise drug related social, legal, physiological and psychological harm
- to reduce injecting and associated risk behaviours
- to promote health and well-being of drug users
- to ensure user-friendly services are known and accessible to drug users
- to identify children affected by parental substance use and liaise with other agencies to ensure their safety and well being
- to provide pathways to a drug free lifestyle
Who is the service for?
This service is aimed at individuals and families experiencing significant health, social, relationship, financial or legal harm related to problem drug use.
We will work with clients who are willing to acknowledge the adverse impact of their substance use on themselves and / or others, meet with a worker to explore difficulties, identify problems, consider options, make choices and take action.
What our service offers
- a simple phone referral system
- a rapid response with offers of an appointment within 7 days of referral (for drug services)
- assessment of needs and support to access appropriate services
- time limited goal-focussed work with clients
- work with clients to raise awareness of impact of parental substance use on children
- access to drug and alcohol residential rehabilitation services
- assessment for community care services where chronic alcohol use is associated with significant social/health risks (even if client is unable or unwilling to stop drinking)
- advice and consultation for workers on matters related to substance use
- a partnership approach with referrers

Hours of opening 9am - 5pm, Monday - Friday. Evening appointments are available if required.
