Museums Galleries Scotland

 

West Lothian Council, like all other local authorities in Scotland, is a member of Museums Galleries Scotland (MGS). Museums Galleries Scotland represent over 340 museums and galleries across Scotland. The sector welcomes 25 million visitors and provides £800 million in value to the Scottish economy.

Their vision for the sector is

  • a welcoming museums and galleries sector that opens doors and celebrates collections, inspiring creativity, learning and enjoyment for all.


Their mission to achieve the vision is to

  • provide a strategic lead and support the development of the sector to unlock the potential of museums and galleries in Scotland.


Their aims are to

  • advocate and communicate the contribution museums and galleries make to people's lives
  • support the development of museums and galleries
  • build partnerships and sustainable relationships at national, local and regional levels
  • promote and provide excellent customer services
  • build an evidence base to inform policy and support decision-making.
